Flirting with the world

1 John 2:15 Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. 17The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.

How times have changed! Jesus said that whosoever looks at a woman to lust after her has already committed adultery. Tell that to the present generation. I will be the first to point out that the first look is unavoidable. Jesus is talking about that second look.

The internet has myriads of sites dedicated to flirting. You can Google almost anything on flirting. It is a favourite pastime for many a few until it lands them in some hot soup. The struggle is that we see a lot of compromise wherever we turn to in the church today. People flirt with the world. The world is no longer something out there. It is right there in the church.

The preachers of old would encourage us to not love the world and the things that are in the world: the lust of the eyes, the lust of the flesh and the pride of life.

The devil is not omniscient. He is not all-knowing. Neither is he omnipotent; he is not all-powerful. Satan is not omnipresent; he is not present everywhere at the same time. Only God possesses those qualities. These are the attributes that describe the God of heaven and earth, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

However, the devil is observant. He watches your move and interprets what you are up to. For this reason, the strategy of the devil hasn't changed a bit. He makes you lust after the world, the flesh and the pride of life. This way he gets you from flirting to a fling and from a fling to a long lasting relationship.

We all get tempted to have a fling with the world. Run, Christian run! We are all tempted to take our relationship a step further with the world; run fellow soldier, run. Let us not find ourselves wanting. Let's not find ourselves bound by the shackles of the enemy. This is what he wants. Cut that relationship with the world. Cut it off.

Are you struggling to cut off that fling with the world? The works of the flesh can be overcome as we keep in step with the Holy Spirit. Our own power can help to a certain degree but it is the power of the Holy Spirit that sees us through to the very end. Do not let anything hinder your acceleration to the level that has been prophetically declared for you.

Are you struggling to end that fling? Here is a list of the works of the flesh. Need I say more?

Galatians 5:19 Now the works of the flesh are clearly revealed, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lustfulness, 20 idolatry, sorcery, hatreds, fightings, jealousies, angers, rivalries, divisions, heresies, 21 envyings, murders, drunkennesses, revelings, and things like these; of which I tell you before, as I also said before, that they who do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. 22 But the fruit of the Spirit is: love, joy, peace, long-suffering, kindness, goodness, faith,23 meekness, self-control; against such things there is no law.24 But those belonging to Christ have crucified the flesh with its passions and lusts. 25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

26 Let us not become glory-seeking, provoking one another, envying one another.
